Business stays
The Star Grand Brisbane, reviewed for work trips
Use this independent desk to assess The Star Grand Brisbane for a work trip at Queen’s Wharf. The focus is practical: rooms, meeting access, the Sky Deck for a client dinner, the CBD setting and what to ask for before you book. Each page leads to a business stay request, not a casino booking.

Rooms
See the published room and suite names, including City, River, Accessible and Skyline categories, with notes on what to request for a work stay.

Meetings and events
Check the Event Centre wording, the 1,440 seat ballroom reference, and how to request rooms around a conference or delegate programme.

Airport and Airtrain
Plan airport access without guessed transfer times. Use the official Airtrain timetable and the precinct’s published transport notes.

Why Queen’s Wharf works for a business trip
Queen’s Wharf puts The Star Grand Brisbane at 33 William Street, Brisbane City, Queensland 4000. For a traveller with one night and one meeting, the main value is concentration: hotel rooms, restaurants, bars, event space, the river edge and pedestrian links sit in the same precinct. The official precinct site is queenswharfbrisbane.com.au; the hotel and dining pages sit at star.com.au/brisbane.
The Neville Bonner Bridge is the useful link for a walking break or a South Bank approach. The published description is precise: it connects South Bank to the Queen’s Wharf precinct and The Star’s The Terrace on Level 4. It opened with the first phase on 29 August 2024 and is named after the first Indigenous parliamentarian.
For a client dinner, the Sky Deck gives you a clear business option without leaving the precinct. The published venues are Aloria, Babblers and Cicada Blu, with the viewing platform and dining levels described as 100 metres above the CBD. Hours are published by The Star and can be weather-dependent, so check the official page before setting a dinner time. For a tighter plan, use our page on the Sky Deck and dining.
For conferences, The Star publishes the Event Centre as a major part of the offer: a 1,440 seat ballroom with pre-function bar, outdoor terrace and views to the Story Bridge. The opening release also describes a 3,500sqm Event Centre and the city’s largest hotel ballroom. Events pages also name Isoletto Pool Club, Sky Deck and Leisure Deck as event venues. If you are building a room block around that programme, start with meetings and events.
The hotel in brief
The Star Grand is the hotel reviewed on this site. The Star publishes 340 rooms for The Star Grand Brisbane, including four penthouses in the opening release. The published room categories are City King Room, City Accessible Room, City Twin Room, River King Room and River Accessible Room. Published suites are City Suite, River Suite, Skyline City Suite and Skyline Penthouse Suite. Our rooms page keeps to those names and sets out what to ask for on a work stay.
Check-in is published as 3:00 PM and check-out as 11:00 AM, with express check-out on request. Valet is via the porte cochere at 33 William Street. The hotel car park is on William Street, with entrances published for William Street, Queen’s Wharf Road and Margaret Street. It is open 24/7 subject to availability, with no vehicles over 2.1m. Rates are published by the venue and should be checked on the official parking page before travel.
Hotel facilities published for guests include Isoletto Pool Club on Level 7, with three heated pools overlooking the Brisbane River, sauna, steam room, indoor gymnasium and pool bar. The venue notice says the facilities are now open. No dedicated spa is listed in the facts checked for this site.
Ownership and operation matter when you are reading recent coverage. Destination Brisbane Consortium is owned by Chow Tai Fook Enterprises Limited and Far East Consortium International Limited since 31 March 2026, after The Star completed disposal of its interest in DBC to the Joint Venture Partners. The Star continues as casino operator under the DBC Casino Management Agreement for a fixed annual fee of $18 million payable monthly, plus performance incentive fees from 1 April 2026. For booking purposes, this site treats The Star Grand as the hotel under review and sends you to the property or booking partner for live availability.
Arrival, airport and movement around the city
The facts checked for this site do not publish an airport distance or a hotel shuttle time. Brisbane Airport access should therefore be planned from official airport and transport sources rather than estimated here. Airtrain runs between Brisbane Airport and city stations; check the official timetable before you set a meeting or return flight. Our airport and Airtrain guide keeps this general and points you to the timetable instead of inventing transfer times.
The precinct’s published public-transport notes are broad but useful. Train options named by the precinct are Roma Street, Central and South Brisbane stations within walking distance. Bus access includes Brisbane’s Uptown bus hub and nearby stops, including the free city loop as described by the precinct site. Ferry access is via North Quay ferry stop or terminal, described as a short walk. Cycling access is via the Bicentennial Bikeway with end-of-ride facilities.
For a same-day meeting, keep the plan simple. Arrive, leave a buffer for check-in, and avoid building the itinerary around unverified transfer times. If dinner is part of the programme, the Sky Deck is the simplest published precinct option for a view and a defined venue choice. If the next morning starts early, use the published 11:00 AM check-out and ask for express check-out on request when the booking is made.
The former Treasury Brisbane casino should not be used as a fallback casino-hotel in current planning. Treasury Brisbane casino closed on 25 August 2024 when gaming moved to Queen’s Wharf. The Treasury Hotel is listed as coming soon, with no date. For the changeover record, read from Treasury to The Star.
Casino context, kept factual
The Star Brisbane includes a physical casino, but this site is written for accommodation and business-trip planning. Australia bans online casino play, and nothing on this site allows or encourages gambling. The relevant point for most work travellers is access control and venue context, especially if a dinner, event or route through the precinct passes near gaming areas.
The published age rule is clear: guests must be aged 18 years or over to enter the casino. Joining The Star Club also requires being 18+ with valid photo ID. The Queensland regulator is the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation, which lists The Star Brisbane as operated by Destination Brisbane Consortium Integrated Resort Operations Pty Ltd. For a strictly factual overview, use our page on the casino, factually.
The Star publishes that The Star Brisbane operates 24/7, with short closures on Good Friday, ANZAC Day and Christmas Day. The detailed opening-hours page could not be read through the checked proxy, so confirm current venue hours on the official site before travel. Dining, Sky Deck and event hours may differ from casino operating hours.
If you are booking for employees, the safer operational assumption is to separate the work brief from the casino floor. Ask for room preferences, arrival times, delegate numbers, dinner requirements and invoices. Do not assume that a gaming membership, a dining booking and a hotel booking are the same process.
How to use this site
This site is independent of The Star, Destination Brisbane Consortium and the Queen’s Wharf precinct. It is written as a business-travel desk: the pages summarise published facts, flag gaps, and help you frame a stay request. Start with the full review if you want the complete business view of arrival, rooms, dining and event space.
If you already know your dates, use the request form rather than over-reading the site. Useful details include arrival date, departure date, number of rooms, room category preference, whether accessible rooms are needed, whether a delegate room block is linked to an event, and whether dinner should be near the Sky Deck. If your trip includes an Event Centre programme, say so in the request.
For short trips, the most practical page is 24 hours in Brisbane. It sets out a workday rhythm: airport arrival, CBD movement, meeting time, river walk, dinner and early checkout. It does not invent venues or transfer times that are not published in the facts.
For procurement or finance teams, the important distinction is that this site does not guarantee rates, does not publish unverified phone numbers and does not take casino activity requests. A confirmed stay is between the traveller, employer or organiser and the hotel or booking partner. The reader starts here to shape the request and finishes at the business stay form.
